This year, the catchment area of Morbe dam has been blessed with abundant rainfall, receiving a generous 3,549 millimeters compared to the approximately 2,900 millimeters during the same period last year. In 2021, with a rainfall of 4,226.80 millimeters, the dam’s water stock reached 190.890 million cubic meters (mcm), nearly reaching full capacity but not quite overflowing. However, in 2022, lower rainfall at 3,559.40 millimeters resulted in a reduced water stock of 188.088 mcm.

Municipal commissioner Rajesh Narvekar expressed his satisfaction with this year’s developments, assuring the city’s residents of ample water supply for the coming year. While the monsoon season is drawing to a close, there’s still hope for more rainfall in the catchment area, ensuring the dam continues to overflow and remains at full capacity for an extended period.

Narvekar emphasized the importance of responsible water usage, urging residents to be mindful of conserving this precious resource. With the dam overflowing, there’s no immediate need for water cuts. Challenges in Some Areas
While most parts of the city are expected to have a steady water supply, certain areas like Kopar Khairane and Airoli-digha have been facing challenges due to reduced water supply from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). City engineer Sanjay Desai assured residents that efforts are underway to resolve these supply issues promptly.
