Mumbai Metro Line 4 (Green Line) is a 32.32 km elevated metro line from Wadala to Kasarvadavali in Thane, running along the Eastern Express Highway through Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund. Together with Line 4A to Gaimukh, it will be the main metro link between Thane and Mumbai. The first 10.5 km, from Gaimukh to Cadbury Junction, has finished trials and is now expected to open in December 2026.

Phase 1 also includes the two Line 4A stations north of Kasarvadavali, Gowniwada and Gaimukh, making ten stations from Gaimukh to Cadbury Junction. See the Line 4A page.
Current status (October 2026)
- Phase 1: Gaimukh – Cadbury Junction (about 10.5 km, 10 stations including Line 4A) has finished trial runs, which began between Gaimukh and Vijay Garden in September 2025 and later covered the whole stretch. On 26 October 2026, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said this first phase will open in December 2026, later than the earlier Diwali target. Final safety approval for passenger services is still awaited.
- Safety testing: RDSO certified the trains, track and signalling on 2 June 2026. In August 2026 the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) cleared the rolling stock and inspected the temporary pit line at Gaimukh.
- Trains: on 14 October 2026, Alstom unveiled the first of the line’s own 39 driverless six-car Metropolis trains at its Sri City factory, built in 14 months. They run at up to 80 km/h and have wheelchair spaces and bicycle racks. Until enough of these trains are delivered and tested, the first services are expected to use interim trains from the Charkop depot (used on Lines 2A, 7 and 9).
- Depot: the Mogharpada depot on Ghodbunder Road is not ready; trains will be stabled and serviced at Gaimukh until it is.
- Rest of the line: Cadbury Junction to Wadala is still under construction, with no firm opening dates.

Line 4 and Line 4A will run as one Green Line service from Gaimukh. In future, the proposed Line 10 will continue from Gaimukh towards Mira Road, linking with Line 9.

Interchange with Line 6 (Pink Line) towards Powai, JVLR and Jogeshwari.

About Metro Line 4
Route explained
From Kasarvadavali, Line 4 runs south along Ghodbunder Road to Cadbury Junction, through Thane to Mulund, and then along LBS Marg through Bhandup, Kanjurmarg, Vikhroli and Ghatkopar. It ends at Bhakti Park near the Wadala Truck Terminal. Line 4A adds two stations north to Gaimukh.
Why Line 4 matters
Thane to Mumbai traffic today relies on the Central Railway locals and the congested Eastern Express Highway. Line 4 gives Ghodbunder Road and LBS Marg their first rail link, with connections to four other metro lines and the Monorail.

When will Line 4 reach Wadala?
The line will open in stages southwards from Thane. MMRDA has not announced firm dates for the Cadbury Junction – Gandhi Nagar and Gandhi Nagar – Wadala sections.
Who operates Line 4?
MMRDA is building the line. Safety clearances for the first section have been issued to MMRDA and Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation (MMMOCL), which will run the trains.
What trains will run on Metro Line 4?
Line 4 and 4A will use 39 driverless six-car Metropolis trains from Alstom, supplied under an L&T–Alstom contract. The first train was unveiled on 14 October 2026. Until enough of them are delivered and tested, the first services are expected to use interim trains from the Charkop depot.
Why has Line 4 been delayed?
The line was first due in 2022. Delays came from land and court issues, a cancelled train order, and in 2026 a fatal parapet collapse at Mulund that held up safety work by about two months. The Mogharpada depot is also not ready, so trains will be maintained at a temporary pit line at Gaimukh.
