Effective from August 15, the Western Railway’s Mumbai division plans to upgrade 49 local trains from 12 coaches to 15 coaches on the Virar-Churchgate route. This move aims to provide a more comfortable commuting experience to passengers.

The Western Railway has taken a thoughtful step to make daily travel more pleasant for Mumbai’s local train passengers. With a noticeable increase in the number of people using these trains, the decision to expand train capacity is a welcoming move. This change is expected to address the issue of overcrowding and provide relief to the commuters.

Variety of Services

Among the 49 trains scheduled for an upgrade, most are slower services. However, there will also be an improvement in 15 fast train services running between Churchgate and Virar. This means that both regular and quick travel options will be upgraded, benefiting a wide range of passengers.

To ensure the smooth functioning of these extended train services, special facilities for parking, known as stabling lines, have been arranged at important stations like Virar, Bhayander, and Andheri. These stations will serve as the starting points for the upgraded trains. This setup involves operating three groups of trains, totaling 49 services, covering the Churchgate-Virar route.

Measurable Enhancement

The expansion of these local train services will significantly increase the number of 15-coach trains from the current 150 to 199. This means that a larger number of passengers can enjoy the benefits of more spacious trains. This change highlights Western Railway’s commitment to providing better travel options to the people.

The Western Railway operates an extensive network of local train services, offering a total of 1, 394 services daily, including 79 air-conditioned services. These services cater to the needs of over 27. 24 lakh commuters who rely on the Mumbai suburban network every day.

Mumbai’s development as a thriving city relies on efficient transportation. The upgrade of 49 local train services on the Virar-Churchgate route with 15 coaches each is a notable stride in this direction. This change is expected to positively impact the travel experience for passengers, cementing the local train network’s vital role in the daily lives of Mumbai residents. Starting from August 15, commuters can look forward to a more comfortable journey.
