Ganpati Idol Immersion: Traffic Restrictions for Anant Chaturdashi in Mumbai

As the city of Mumbai gears up to bid adieu to Lord Ganesha with grandeur and fervor on Anant Chaturdashi, the Mumbai traffic authorities have announced a series of road closures and restrictions to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the Ganpati idol immersion process. The restrictions will be in force from 10 am on Thursday till 1 am on Friday.

Girgaon Chowpatty and Surrounding Areas

In Girgaon, where one of the most significant Ganpati idol immersion ceremonies takes place, vehicular movement will be strictly prohibited on Dadasahib Bhadkamkar Marg, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Marg, and Pandita Ramabai Marg. Additionally, Walkeshwar Road, JSS Road, MS Ali Road, Patthe Bapurao Marg, Jawaji Dadaji Marg (Tardeo Road), and Jehangir Boman Behram Marg will be designated as one-way roads to manage traffic efficiently.

Byculla, Parle, and Dadar

In Byculla, road closures will be in effect on Dr. BA Road (North Bound) and Sane Guruji Marg. In Parle, vehicles will not be allowed to ply on B J Marg (Bapurao Jagatap Marg), Govindaji Keni Marg, Naigaon Cross Road, and King ED Road. In Dadar, vehicular movement will be restricted on Swatantryaveer Savarkar Marg, Ranade Road, Sant Gyaneshwar Mandir Road, Jambekar Maharaj Marg near the chowpatty, Keluskar Road, MB Raut Road, and Tilak Airport.

Western Suburbs

The western suburbs will also witness traffic restrictions, with vehicles prohibited on Tagore Road, the northbound stretch of Juhu Tara Road, and Janardhan Mhatre Road in Juhu, as Juhu Beach serves as a prime ‘visarjan’ spot.

Santacruz and Rail Over Bridges (ROBs)

In Santacruz, there will be curbs on Vaikunthlal Mehta Road and Indravan Oza Marg, as well as Damu Anna Date Road, Bandar Pakhadi Road, and the T junctions leading to Marve Chowpatty on the Marve Road in Kandivali.

Traffic authorities have also issued important safety measures, limiting the number of people allowed on rail over bridges (ROBs) to no more than 100 at once. Additionally, large gatherings and dancing on ROBs have been strictly prohibited. This move is in consideration of the age and condition of several ROBs in the city, including Currey Road, Arthur Road, Chinchpokli, Byculla, Marine Lines, Sandhurst Road, French Railway ROB, Kennedy ROB, Falkland ROB, Belassis Bridge, Mahalaxmi ROB, Prabhadevi ROB, Lokmanya Tilak ROB, and Ghatkopar.

Restrictions on Heavy Vehicles

Furthermore, there will be restrictions on heavy vehicles on ‘visarjan’ day, especially in South Mumbai, where heavy vehicles will only be allowed between 12 am and 7 am.

The Mumbai traffic authorities are dedicated to ensuring the safety and convenience of citizens during this festive occasion. These measures are aimed at managing the heavy traffic flow and preventing any untoward incidents, allowing Mumbaikars to celebrate Anant Chaturdashi with peace and joy.
