The Tata Mumbai Marathon, Asia’s largest marathon by participation, returns on Sunday, 17 January 2027. Most races start at CSMT, and the course takes in Marine Drive, the BandraโWorli Sea Link and the Coastal Road. Whether you’re running, cheering or just trying to get around the city that morning, here’s what to know.

The full marathon finishes near Azad Maidan. Registration for most categories is already closed or closing, and entries are only accepted through the official Procam portal.
Getting to the start
CSMT is served by Central and Harbour line locals and by Metro Line 3. Because the full marathon starts before normal services begin, runners usually rely on the special early locals that the railways have run in previous years, or arrange road transport before the closures begin. Runners in the half marathon head to Mahim, close to Mahim station on the Western line.
Road closures
On race morning, much of South Mumbai and the western seafront is closed to traffic, including the course along Marine Drive, Pedder Road, the BandraโWorli Sea Link and the Coastal Road. Closures usually start in the early hours and are lifted in stages as runners pass. If you have a flight or an appointment that morning, plan your route around the course or use the local trains.
For spectators
- Marine Drive is the classic place to cheer, with a long open promenade.
- Pedder Road is one of the toughest climbs in the late stages, where runners appreciate the support most.
- The finish area near Azad Maidan is a short walk from CSMT and Churchgate.

The full marathon is expected to start at about 5:30 AM. Exact start times for each category are confirmed by the organisers closer to race day.
Which roads are closed on Mumbai Marathon day?
Large parts of South Mumbai and the western seafront are closed to traffic on race morning, including the course along Marine Drive, Pedder Road, the BandraโWorli Sea Link and the Coastal Road. Mumbai Traffic Police publishes the full list of closures and diversions in the days before the race.
Are there early local trains on Mumbai Marathon day?
In past years, Central and Western Railway have run special early-morning locals for runners and volunteers. Watch for railway announcements in the week before the race.
Where is the race expo?
The expo, where runners collect their bibs, runs from 14 to 16 January 2027. Its venue had not been announced at the time of writing; the 2026 expo was held in Kalina, Santacruz East.
