Started in 1999, the festival is one of Mumbai’s best-loved cultural events. Recent editions have run more than 400 programmes across music, dance, theatre, literature, cinema, heritage walks, workshops, food and street art, with installations spread along the streets of the precinct. The 2027 programme is expected to be released closer to the dates.
Main venues
- Cross Maidan โ the main open-air stage for music and dance
- Jehangir Art Gallery and the art installations along K. Dubash Marg
- CSMVS museum (formerly the Prince of Wales Museum)
- Horniman Circle Garden
How to reach Kala Ghoda
The precinct sits between Churchgate and CSMT. From Churchgate (Western line) or CSMT (Central and Harbour lines), it is about a 10โ15 minute walk. On Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line), Hutatma Chowk station near Flora Fountain is the closest, with CSMT and Churchgate metro stations also nearby. Parking is very limited during the festival, so the train is by far the easiest option.
Tips
- Weekday afternoons are far less crowded than weekend evenings.
- Popular workshops and talks fill up fast, so register as soon as the schedule is out.
- Carry water and wear comfortable shoes; you will walk between venues.
