Project History and Other Details
Metro Line 7A will be the second underground metro line covering 2.915 km underground, the other being Metro line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz).
Metro Line 3 is the only fully underground twin tunnels metro line in the city, and Metro Line 7A will be the other twin tunnel line in the city that connects to the T2 International Airport.
In 2018, MMRDA received approval from the state government for the extension of Metro Line 7, which extends Andheri to T2 International Airport and Dahisar to Mira-Bhayander.
As per the source, The construction for Metro Line 7A was supposed to start by January 2019 but was delayed due to some issues related to fund-sharing issues with airport authorities.
MMRDA has awarded the contract to J. Kumar Infrastructure for Metro line 7A. The estimated cost for the extension for Metro lines 7A and 9 is ₹6518 Crore. The civil work began in March 2020 and is expected to complete by December 2021.
