Current status (October 2026)

  • Civil work: about 88% physical progress (April 2026). A 42 m, 169-tonne steel span was launched over the Western Railway tracks at Jogeshwari in April 2026.

  • Shared structure: a 2.58 km combined road flyover and metro viaduct between Swami Samarth Nagar and Mahakali Caves is being built with BMC.
  • Opening: the earlier target was the second half of 2026; recent reports point to a partial opening around early 2027.

About Metro Line 6

Route explained

Line 6 starts at Swami Samarth Nagar near Lokhandwala and runs east past Adarsh Nagar and Jogeshwari to the JVLR, then follows the Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road past Mahakali Caves, SEEPZ, Saki Vihar Road and Powai Lake to IIT Powai. It crosses to Kanjurmarg (West) and ends at Vikhroli on the Eastern Express Highway.

Why Line 6 matters

JVLR is one of the few east–west roads across the suburbs and is heavily congested. Line 6 will be the first metro line crossing between the Western and Eastern Express Highways north of BKC, and it meets four other metro lines.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mumbai Metro Line 6 open?

No. Line 6 is still under construction. Physical work was about 88% complete in April 2026, and MMRDA plans to open it without waiting for its Kanjurmarg depot. Reports now suggest a partial opening around early 2027; no official date has been announced.

What is the route of Metro Line 6?

Line 6 (Pink Line) runs east–west from Swami Samarth Nagar in Lokhandwala, Andheri (West), along the Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) through Jogeshwari, SEEPZ and Powai to Kanjurmarg and Vikhroli on the Eastern Express Highway.

How many stations does Line 6 have?

13 elevated stations, from Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli (EEH). All stations are planned with platform screen doors.

Which metro lines connect with Line 6?

Line 2A at Adarsh Nagar, Line 7 at JVLR, Line 3 near SEEPZ, and Line 4 at Kanjurmarg (Gandhi Nagar), making it the main east–west link between Mumbai’s metro lines. It also meets the Western Railway at Jogeshwari and the Central Railway at Kanjurmarg.

Does Line 6 go to Powai?

Yes. It has three stations in the Powai area: Rambaug (Powai), Powai Lake and IIT Powai.

What will the fare be on Line 6?

Fares have not been announced. Mumbai’s MMRDA metro lines charge distance-based fares starting at ₹10.

Why is Line 6 delayed?

The line was first due around 2021–22. Delays came from land issues, a 2022 crane accident at Kanjurmarg, and the long-pending salt-pan land for the Kanjurmarg depot. To open sooner, MMRDA is building elevated pit lines near Vikhroli for daily maintenance, with major overhauls at the Mandale depot.

How long is Metro Line 6?

About 15.3 km according to MMRDA’s latest figures (originally approved as 14.47 km). The estimated cost is about ₹6,700 crore.

Who is building Line 6?

MMRDA is the project authority. Trains, signalling and platform doors were awarded to NCC, and power and electrical systems to IRCON, in June 2025.
