The Mulund Civic Swimming Pool, nestled within the Priyadarshini Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, has temporarily shut its gates once again. Since August 16, this popular civic-run pool has been off-limits to swimmers due to essential repair work. The culprit? An aging filtration plant that has seen better days. However, there’s a silver lining; the pool is set to make a splashy return by the close of September.
The Ongoing Issue
Operated by the Brihanmumbai Sports and Lalit Kala Prathistan (BLKP), the Mulund swimming pool has faced a series of closures lately, all due to the aging filtration system. Understandably, this repetitive inconvenience has left its members quite disappointed. To quell their dismay, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken the reins to conduct much-needed repairs and modernize various components of the filtration plant.
The Halt to H2O Fun
If you’ve been planning a refreshing dip at this pool, you might need to change your plans. The swimming pool has been off-limits to the public since last week. This closure is a necessity to facilitate the repair work. However, there’s good news on the horizon – once the filtration plant is patched up, the water quality should see a significant improvement.
When Will the Pool Reopen?
So, when can eager swimmers expect to take the plunge again? The extensive repair process is estimated to take about one and a half months. If all goes according to plan, the pool is expected to reopen its gates by September 30. This positive update comes directly from a civic official, giving hope to those eagerly awaiting the return of their favorite swimming spot.
More Pools to Dive Into
Mulund isn’t the only neighborhood in Mumbai with a civic-run swimming pool. The BMC operates several others across the city, including Dadar’s Shivaji Park, Chembur, Kandivali, and the Shahaji Raje Sports Complex in Andheri. Excitingly, there’s more to look forward to. New swimming pools are currently under construction at Worli Hill Reservoir, Chacha Nehru Garden in Malad West, Indira Gandhi Entertainment Park in Andheri West, Kondivita in Andheri East, and Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Kridangan in Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli East.
Simplifying Membership
In the past, gaining membership for BMC-run swimming pools involved waiting in long queues and filling out physical forms once or twice a year. But change is afoot! In August 2022, the BMC introduced online membership options, making it more convenient for aspiring swimmers. Moreover, new memberships now offer flexible monthly and quarterly payment plans, ensuring that taking a dip in Mumbai’s civic pools is easier and more accessible than ever before.
The Mulund Civic Swimming Pool might be taking a short hiatus, but its imminent return promises improved swimming experiences for all. So, mark your calendars for September 30, when the water beckons once again!
