Mumbai has two airports. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA, code BOM) has two terminals: Terminal 1 in Santacruz for domestic flights and Terminal 2 in Sahar, Andheri East, for international and domestic flights. Navi Mumbai International Airport (code NMI) opened on 25 December 2025 in Ulwe, across the harbour, roughly 40 to 45 km from South Mumbai by road.
Flights are being moved between these terminals while Terminal 1 is prepared for rebuilding, so this page starts with the question most travellers have: where does my flight leave from, and how do I get there?
Terminal 1 is open, but it will be rebuilt in phases from 2027 and some flights will move to Terminal 2 or Navi Mumbai. Always check the airport code on your ticket: BOM is Mumbai (T1 and T2), NMI is Navi Mumbai.
Last checked: 1 November 2026Which terminal am I flying from?
Pick your airline to see where it flies from in Mumbai.
Tip: the airport code on your ticket settles it. BOM means Mumbai (Terminal 1 or 2), NMI means Navi Mumbai. Your boarding pass shows the terminal.

Tip: Mumbai Metro Line 3 is the easiest way to both CSMIA terminals from South and central Mumbai. It runs underground from Cuffe Parade through Churchgate, CSMT, Mumbai Central, Dadar and BKC. From Andheri or Ghatkopar, take Mumbai Metro Line 1 to Marol Naka and change to Line 3 for one stop to Airport T2.
Moving between terminals and airports
Terminal 1 to Terminal 2
The two CSMIA terminals are on opposite sides of the runways, so you canโt walk between them. On Mumbai Metro Line 3 they are just two stops apart (Airport T1, Sahar Road, Airport T2), which is usually the cheapest option if your luggage is manageable. A taxi or app cab takes about 15 to 20 minutes, longer at peak times. If you are connecting between two flights on one ticket, ask your airline how the transfer works.
Mumbai airport to Navi Mumbai airport
A free shuttle bus runs between CSMIA and Navi Mumbai airport about once an hour, operated by Cityflo, Aarya and Chalo. MSRTCโs e-Shivai bus between Navi Mumbai airport and Borivali also stops at CSMIA Terminal 1. There is no metro between the two airports yet: Metro Line 8 (Gold Line) has been approved but not built. By road, the trip crosses the harbour, so leave plenty of time.

Good to know
- Check the airport code. BOM is Mumbai (Terminal 1 or 2). NMI is Navi Mumbai, which is a separate airport about an hour or more away by road.
- Check again the day before. Airlines are moving some flights between Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Navi Mumbai in 2026 and 2027, and your terminal can change.
- Going to Navi Mumbai from the western suburbs? Allow extra time. The free shuttle from CSMIA and MSRTCโs e-Shivai bus from Borivali are cheaper than a taxi.
- Taxis. Both airports have prepaid taxi counters and app-cab pickup zones at arrivals.
