Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA, code NMI) is Mumbaiโs second airport. It is in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, across the harbour from the city, and is a separate airport from CSMIA (code BOM) in Santacruz and Sahar. Commercial flights began on 25 December 2025, when IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru landed, and the first international flight, Air India Express to Abu Dhabi, followed on 15 July 2026. The airport is set to be named after D. B. Patil.
Its passenger terminal is called Terminal 1, so donโt confuse it with Terminal 1 at CSMIA. If your ticket says NMI, this is your airport.
Airlines at Navi Mumbai airport
- IndiGo: domestic flights. It plans to move 12 daily international departures here from February 2027, to Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta, and to add Kathmandu.
- Akasa Air: domestic flights.
- Air India Express: domestic flights and some international flights, including Abu Dhabi. It plans more domestic and Gulf flights from December 2026.
More flights are moving here from Mumbaiโs main airport in 2026 and 2027 while Terminal 1 at CSMIA is rebuilt. Foreign airlines had not agreed to move by the end of October 2026.
By bus
Buses are the cheapest way to the airport and the network grew quickly in October 2026.
- NMMT: seven airport routes, A1 to A7, link the terminal with Kharkopar, Targhar, Belapur, Nerul, Panvel, Khandeshwar and the Airport Project Office. Belapur and Nerul buses run every 15 to 20 minutes at peak times.
- MSRTC e-Shivai (from 7 October 2026): to Dadar East for โน170 via Sion and Atal Setu, to Borivali for โน210 via CSMIA Terminal 1, Bandra and Atal Setu, and to Pune for โน450 (two buses a day). Children under 12, and women with a National Common Mobility Card, pay half fare.
- Chalo buses: 21 daily services to Marol (Andheri East), Bandra, Dadar and the World Trade Centre in Colaba.
By train
No railway station serves the terminal directly. The nearest local train stations are Targhar, about 3 km away, and Bamandongri, both on the Uran line, and Panvel, about 17 km away. From any of these, take an NMMT airport bus, an auto or a taxi for the last stretch.
By metro
There is no metro to the airport yet. Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 runs between Belapur and Pendhar but does not reach the terminal. Metro Line 8 (Gold Line), a 35 km line linking CSMIA and Navi Mumbai airport, has been approved but is not under way yet.
By car or taxi
- From South Mumbai: Atal Setu, the 21.8 km sea bridge from Sewri, is the most direct route. It has a FASTag toll, and two-wheelers and autos are not allowed on it.
- From Thane and the eastern suburbs: the SionโPanvel highway.
- At the airport: Uber cabs and autos have marked pickup zones, and there are prepaid taxi and auto counters and car rentals at arrivals.

Getting to Mumbai airport (CSMIA)
A free shuttle bus runs between Navi Mumbai airport and CSMIA roughly every hour, operated by Cityflo, Aarya and Chalo. The e-Shivai bus to Borivali also stops at CSMIA Terminal 1. A taxi has to cross the harbour, so allow plenty of time, especially in the evening rush.
Good to know
- Check the code on your ticket. NMI is Navi Mumbai. BOM is Mumbaiโs CSMIA, which is a long way away.
- From the western suburbs, the trip is long. The free shuttle from CSMIA or the e-Shivai bus from Borivali are budget-friendly options.
- Driving yourself? Make sure your FASTag has enough balance for Atal Setu.
- Arrive early: most airlines ask you to reach about 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international ones. Add extra travel time, as the airport is far from most of Mumbai.
