On a quiet Sunday morning, tragedy struck on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway in Naigaon, Mumbai. A 27-year-old woman named Pratima Yadav lost her life in a heartbreaking accident while riding pillion on a motorbike. This heart-wrenching incident occurred due to her dupatta getting tangled in the bike’s rear wheel.
A Day Planned for Devotion
Pratima Yadav, a young woman employed in a private firm, had planned a visit to the Tungareshwar temple in Vasai (east) with her husband, Manishkumar. The couple set out from their home in Kandivli on their motorcycle with the hopes of a peaceful day of devotion.
As they were making their way back home around 7:15 am, a moment of misfortune changed their lives forever. When they reached the Bapane bridge in Naigaon, Pratima’s dupatta accidentally got entangled in the rear wheel of their bike. This sudden entanglement caused her to lose her balance, and she tragically fell off the bike. The situation took a horrifying turn as she was reportedly dragged for a few seconds before the bike finally came to a halt.
A Desperate Rush to Save a Life
With urgency in their hearts, Pratima was quickly rushed to the nearest hospital. However, despite the efforts of the medical team, it was too late. Pratima Yadav was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Legal Proceedings
In response to this tragic incident, the Naigaon police have registered a case of accidental death. This heart-wrenching accident is the second of its kind on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway this month. Earlier, on August 9, another 27-year-old woman named Pooja Gupta, who was riding pillion on a bike, fell off due to the poor road conditions caused by potholes in the same Naigaon area. Despite medical intervention, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
These two deeply saddening incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of safety while riding a motorcycle. It highlights the need for caution and awareness on the roads, especially on highways where accidents can have devastating consequences.
