In a heart-wrenching incident in Bhiwandi, a quiet town in Thane, Mumbai, tragedy struck in the dead of night. A two-story building, nestled on Durga Road in Dhobi Talao, crumbled to the ground, claiming the lives of two innocent souls, one of whom was merely an infant. This incident unfolded at 12:35 am, shaking the residents of the close-knit community to their core.
Swift Response from Heroes
As the night was deep and most residents lay in peaceful slumber, the unthinkable happened. However, heroes emerged from the darkness. The Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) and the brave firefighters raced to the scene as soon as they received the distress call about the building collapse. Their mission: to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble.
With great determination and courage, the rescue teams began to extract the trapped souls from the wreckage. Seven people, who had been living their ordinary lives just moments ago, were now entangled within the ruins of their former home.
Initially, there was a glimmer of hope. A woman and a young girl were found alive but in critical condition. The dedicated rescuers spared no effort to ensure their survival. Sadly, despite all the care and attention, both the woman and the little girl succumbed to their injuries.
The Names of Those Lost
Today, we mourn the loss of Uzma Atif Momin, a 40-year-old woman, and Taslima Mosar Momin, a mere eight months old. Their names are etched in our hearts, a painful reminder of the fragility of life.
The Brave Survivors
Amidst this tragedy, there is a silver lining. The injured survivors, Latif Momin (65), Farzana Abdul Latif (50), Bushara Atif Latif (32), Adima Atif Latif (7), and Urusha Atif Momin (3), have been admitted to a local hospital. Their condition is stable, and they are expected to recover fully. We pray for their swift healing and return to their families.
In the midst of this sorrow, many questions linger. How old was the ill-fated building? Was it on the list of dangerous structures? Yasin Tadvi, the head of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell, offers no answers as of yet.
