India’s Chandrayaan-3 space mission has done something incredible! The mission’s Pragyan rover has found out some really interesting things on the Moon’s surface. This rover has explored the area near the Moon’s south pole and found some special stuff.
Guess what? The biggest thing Pragyan found is sulphur. But why is this so important? Well, it’s not very common on the Moon, so finding it there is a big deal. Along with sulphur, the rover also found other things like aluminium, calcium, iron, chromium, titanium, manganese, silicon, and oxygen.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is the group behind this mission. They used a special tool called the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscope, or LIBS for short. This tool helped the rover make these cool discoveries.
How LIBS Works
LIBS is a tool that can look at things and figure out what they’re made of. It does this by using strong laser beams to make a tiny bit of stuff into a hot and glowing ball called plasma. The light coming from this glowing ball tells us what elements are present.
Why Sulphur is a Big Deal
Finding sulphur on the Moon is a bit like finding a treasure. This element usually comes from volcanoes. So, its presence could tell us about the Moon’s past and what it’s made of. Also, sulphur is linked to water ice. And guess what? Water ice is super important if we want to explore the Moon more and maybe even live there someday.
Other Surprising Discoveries
Pragyan’s tool didn’t stop at sulphur. It also found aluminium, calcium, iron, chromium, and titanium. Later on, the rover saw manganese, silicon, and oxygen too. These things were already known to be on the Moon, but this mission just adds more proof.
Why Does This Matter?
All these findings teach us more about the Moon. They help us understand its history and how it’s made up. Plus, they could be like little hints, showing us where we might find important things for future missions to the Moon.
Looking for Hydrogen
Right now, the smart people at Isro are trying to figure out if there’s hydrogen on the Moon. Finding hydrogen would be amazing! It’s something we use for energy and making things. If we find it on the Moon, it could mean exciting new possibilities for space travel and energy production.
Chandrayaan-3’s Mission
Chandrayaan-3 is the name of this special mission. It started about six weeks ago and it’s getting a lot of attention. The main job of this mission is to learn about what’s on the Moon. All these discoveries help us understand the Moon better and plan for more explorations in the future.
Learning about the Moon is like solving a big puzzle. The more we know, the more we understand the universe. And while the scientists keep looking for hydrogen, everyone around the world is waiting to hear more amazing things from Chandrayaan-3.
