The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have taken a significant step to ensure a hassle-free travel experience for people heading to the Ganesh festival in September. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tirupati Kakade, has issued an order to prohibit the movement of heavy vehicles on the Mumbai-Goa highway starting from Sunday until the festival’s conclusion.

Minister’s Inconvenience Leads to Action:

During an inspection of the ongoing repair work on the Mumbai-Goa highway, Maharashtra PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan faced an unexpected challenge. Stuck in a traffic jam for over two hours, Chavan’s experience highlighted the urgent need for improved traffic management. In response, after discussions with the chief minister and his deputy, a decision was made to temporarily ban heavy vehicle traffic on the route. This step aims to ensure a smooth journey for those traveling to Konkan for the festival, as well as facilitating the repair work process.

Collaborative Decision-Making:

To address the concerns about the Mumbai-Goa highway’s condition, a meeting of stakeholders was held on August 23. During this meeting, participants collectively decided to prevent traffic jams and make the journey to Konkan as seamless as possible for festival-goers. The ongoing repair work on the highway provided an additional reason for the ban on heavy vehicle movement, ensuring that the repair work progresses unhindered.

Alternate Routes Recommended:

Recognizing the significance of keeping traffic flowing smoothly, the traffic department has provided alternative routes for heavy vehicles that would normally use the Mumbai-Goa highway. By diverting heavy traffic away from the affected route, authorities are aiming to minimize congestion and make the journey safer and more efficient for everyone.

As the Ganesh festival approaches, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police, in collaboration with relevant authorities, have taken the proactive step of banning heavy vehicle traffic on the Mumbai-Goa highway. This decision not only eases the journey of those heading to the festival but also aids in the uninterrupted progress of repair work. By choosing to prioritize the comfort and convenience of the public, these measures demonstrate a commitment to ensuring a pleasant travel experience for all.
