Mumbai Metro Line 4A (Green Line) is a 2.88 km elevated extension of Line 4 from Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh, at the northern end of Ghodbunder Road in Thane. It adds two stations, Gowniwada and Gaimukh, and will open together with Line 4’s first section to Cadbury Junction, now expected in December 2026.

Kasarvadavali is a Line 4 station; Line 4A adds the two stations north of it.
Current status (October 2026)
- Civil work: the viaduct and both stations are built; Line 4A was part of the first trial runs, which began in September 2025 between Gaimukh and Vijay Garden.
- Safety testing: RDSO certified the trains and systems on 2 June 2026. In August 2026, CMRS cleared the rolling stock and inspected the pit line at Gaimukh.
- Opening: Line 4A will open with Line 4‘s Gaimukh – Cadbury Junction section (about 10.5 km, 10 stations). On 26 October 2026, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said this phase will open in December 2026.
- Depot: the Mogharpada depot is not ready, so Gaimukh will serve as the temporary base for stabling and maintenance.

About Metro Line 4A
Why Line 4A was added
Line 4 was first planned to end at Kasarvadavali. In 2018 the state extended it to Gaimukh so it could become a transport hub for Ghodbunder Road, with future links to Mira-Bhayandar (Line 10) and the large Mogharpada depot nearby.

Frequently asked questions
Is Mumbai Metro Line 4A open?
Not yet. Line 4A will open together with the first section of Line 4, from Gaimukh to Cadbury Junction. The state government now expects it to open in December 2026, subject to final safety approval.

Not directly yet. The proposed Line 10 would run from Gaimukh across the hills to Mira Road, linking with Line 9. It is still awaiting clearances because it passes through Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Where is the depot for Line 4A?
The permanent depot is at Mogharpada on Ghodbunder Road and is not yet ready. Until then, trains will be stabled and maintained at a pit line at Gaimukh.
