Introduction:

The development of Mumbai’s transportation infrastructure continues to make significant strides with the announcement of Line 12, an upcoming addition to the city’s metro system. This eagerly anticipated project aims to connect Kalyan, Dombivali, and Taloja through a 20.75 km stretch, enhancing connectivity and easing commuting woes for thousands of residents. With 11 firms submitting a total of 19 bids for its construction, Line 12 is poised to become a crucial part of Mumbai’s efficient and modern transportation network.

Enhancing Connectivity and Convenience:

Line 12, also known as the Orange Line, will serve as a southern elevated extension of the existing Line 5, which is currently under construction. By linking Kalyan, Dombivali, and Taloja, this new line will facilitate seamless travel across these important areas, reducing travel time and congestion on the roads. With a total of 17 stations planned along the route, including Ganesh Nagar, Dombivli MIDC, Sonarpada, and Taloja, commuters will enjoy improved access to residential, commercial, and industrial hubs.

Tendering and Bidders:

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) invited tenders for the construction of Line 12 earlier this year. The project was divided into two civil packages, CA-185 and CA-186, with an estimated cost of Rs 4,132 crore. Eleven prominent firms, including Larsen and Toubro, KEC International, and Tata Projects, have submitted bids, showcasing the industry’s enthusiasm and commitment to delivering a world-class metro system for Mumbai.

Project Scope:

Package CA-185 will cover the section between Kalyan and Kolegaon, including the construction of an elevated viaduct and nine stations. Package CA-186 will extend from Kolegaon to Taloja, featuring an elevated viaduct, eight stations, and a connecting line to the depot. These meticulously planned segments aim to ensure a smooth and efficient travel experience for passengers while adhering to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Anticipated Benefits: The construction of Line 12 holds immense promise for the residents of Mumbai. It is expected to reduce congestion on roads, provide a sustainable and eco-friendly mode of transportation, and enhance overall connectivity within the city. Commuters will benefit from shorter travel times, increased convenience, and a reliable transportation option that reduces dependence on private vehicles.

Conclusion:

As Mumbai gears up for the construction of Line 12, the city’s metro network is set to achieve another milestone in its quest to transform transportation infrastructure. This new addition will not only enhance connectivity but also contribute to the city’s growth, making commuting easier, faster, and more comfortable for the residents. With enthusiastic participation from leading firms, Line 12 is poised to become a testament to Mumbai’s dedication to modernizing its transportation system and providing its citizens with a world-class metro experience.
