Story of Haji Ali Dargah – History:

This popular Dargah was built in the 15th Century by the Sayyed Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. He was a wealthy businessman from Bukhara, now known as Uzbekistan. He gave up on all his worldly wealth and money to become a saint just before leaving for Makkah, which is in Saudi Arabia. Later, he traveled the world and starfed his life in Mumbai.

Another significance of this Mumbai Dargah is that it is associated with the death of the Saint. It is believed that he asked his followers not to bury him immediately after his death. Rather his coffin should be thrown in the ocean and then bury the body in the exact place of its discovery. Later on, his coffin was found on the mound in Worli. It is the same spot where the Haji Ali Masjid and Tomb were constructed. Today, the mosque is a famous place where people from all religions come to seek blessings.
