Mumbai Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala) – JVLR – Powai – Vikhroli) metro corridor is 14.47 KM fully elevated and consists of 13 stations.
Metro line 6 corridor will be the second metro line that will connect the western and eastern suburbs. Currently, Metro Line 1 (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) is the only metro line which provides east-west connectivity. The available routes for travelling by road between east-west are Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR), Santacruz-Chembur Link Road and the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road.
People are majorly dependent on roads for travelling between East-West suburbs; as a result, there is heavy congestion on the road. The overall idea behind this project is to decongest the heavy traffic on east-west connecting roads by implementing efficient mass transit connectivity.
The metro corridor will connect Lokhandwala in the western suburb, which will pass through Jogeshwari, Western Express Highway, JVLR, Powai, and goes all the way to Vikhroli in the eastern suburbs.
Similarly to Mumbai Metro line 9, Metro Line 6 will also have a double-decker bridge. The first deck will have an elevated flyover, and the metro train will run on the second deck. The flyover will provide road connectivity from Jogeshwari to JVLR.
The official colour assigned to metro Line 6 is Pink, also called Mumbai Metro Pink Line.
