Mumbai Metro 5 completes overall 73% of Station Work but Car depot work still not started

The construction work of Mumbai Metro 5A is at its peak. Mumbaikars are continuously keeping an eye on the update of the Mumbai metro. Here we will update you on the current status of the Mumbai Metro 5 construction work. 

The most relaxing news is that almost 73% of the metro station work has been completed. However, the car depot is yet to be constructed. The speedy construction of the Mumbai metro is possible because the structural parts of the metro were pre-casted. So it became quite a time-efficient process. 

Mumbai Metro Line 5 key details:

  1. The length of Metro 5 is approximately 24.9 kilometres long. 
  2. The metro construction is not only on the elevated but also on the underground corridor. 
  3. And the route of the metro is from Thane to Kalyan via Bhiwandi. 

Details of Mumbai Metro 5 Construction:

The Mumbai Metro5 is about to complete its construction work because almost 74% has been completed. To make the construction process smoother, the elements used in construction were pre-casted. A total of 1098 parts or elements were erected while construction with the help of cranes and other similar machines. These elements are materials to be used either directly in the construction or as an assistance element to construction. 

Afterwards, precast elements must be erected in the required site, and it’s a challenging process. Erecting the elements requires the crane, hydraulic machine, and certain other external support to be launched in the perfect place in the perfect way. 

Apart from this, the viaduct part is also at the peak of its construction because almost 80% has been completed. 

This was the first phase of Metro 5 construction, and six stations were included. Those are given below. 

  • Dhamankar Naka 
  • Kasheli
  • Purna 
  • Balkum Naka
  • Anjurphata 
  • Kalher

Challenges during the construction of Metro 5 

  1. As we all know, construction work requires crane manoeuvring. Manoeuvring of the crane safely during construction was one of the challenges faced by the construction and managing team of Mumbai Metro5. This challenge was mainly faced at the site of Dhamankar Naka Metro Station.
  1. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) found the demolition quite challenging. However, the families or individuals who got affected because of the demolition drive, compensation was provided to them. The compensation to affected families was provided through the Mumbai Urban Transport Project policy.
