Mumbai Indians became the first IPL team to complete three successful run-chases of 200 runs or greater in just one IPL season on Tuesday against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Indians completed the chase of the 200-run goal in just 16.3 overs, thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s 35-ball 83 and Nehal Wadhera’s 52 not out off 34 balls. Multiple records were broken by Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians during their thrilling victory over RCB. 

The five-time champions made history by becoming the first group to chase the 200+ run objective three times in a single season in the cash-rich division.

At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (9th May), MI hunted down the first 150 runs before facing RCB and attempting to score 200 runs in front of their home crowd.

Mumbai Indians’ first 200-plus run chase this season versus Rajasthan Royals was successful. The target was 214. The goal was easily attained by MI, who went on to win the game by a margin of six wickets.

At the Mohali Cricket Stadium, Punjab was the target of the second such victorious chase. The goal was set at 216. The target was reached by Rohit Sharma’s team with six wickets remaining.

MI elected to bat first for RCB, and in their 20 overs, RCB amassed 199/6. After Anuj Rawat (6) and Virat Kohli (1) were quickly dismissed by MI, Faf du Plessis (65 in 41 balls, comprising five boundaries and three sixes) and Glenn Maxwell (68 in 33 balls, which includes eight boundaries and four sixes) helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) rebound by putting up a 120-run third-wicket stand.

Dinesh Karthik (30 in 18 balls, four boundaries, and a six) and Kedar Jadhav (12* in 10 balls), who both made late appearances, helped RCB to make a respectable score.

 MI chose Jason Behrendorff (3/36) as their go-to bowler. Kumar Karti, Chris Jordan, and Cameron Green claimed a wicket.

Ishan Kishan gave MI a strong start in the 200-run chase with his powerful hitting, but Wanindu Hasanranga’s wickets of Kishan (42 in 21 balls, four fours, and four sixes) and skipper Rohit Sharma (7) reduced the hosts to 52/2 in five overs.

With 21 balls remaining and six wickets in hand, MI completed the total chase. After six victories and five defeats, MI has climbed to third place after this victory. They have 12 points overall. RCB has dropped to seventh place after winning five games and losing six. They have 10 points altogether.
